What are Valves?

Valves are a mechanical Device which helps in controlling and changing the direction of Flow coming from a Piping Component. Different types of Valves are used as per their functions and needs. Some Valves are Self Operated while some require Manual Operations. Being an essential Component of Piping Systems, Valves comprises Different types which include gate Valves, Globe Valves, Ball Valves, Butterfly Valves, Check Valves, etc.

FUNCTIONS OF A VALVES:

· Used for Stopping and Starting the Flow

· Helps in Increasing or Reducing a Flow of Fluid.

· Controls the Direction of Flow Coming from a Particular Direction

Types of Valves used in Industries

Globe Valves: Globe Valves are among the most popular types of valves used in various Industries. Gate Valves is used to control the flow in pipeline and adjust the Gaps Between the Globe Shaped Plug and the Ring Seat. Globe Valve doesn’t Leak much as Compared to other valves. This Valves consists of a movable disk-type element and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body. There are two types of Globe Valves shaped Plug which is used for Low Pressure Flow and Plug and Cage valves is used o Control the Flow. There is an Extra hole in the plug to Control the Flow.

Advantages of Globe valves:

· The opening-closing time is shorter.

· Body ring seating surface process is easier.

· They contain positive shut-off

Disadvantages of Globe Valves:

· Higher Flow Pressure and to close globe valves under high pressure, it requires a larger amount of force or an actuator with a large torque

More About Globe Valves

Butterfly Valves: Butterfly Valves is a simple piping system which has a rotating disc Rotating across the Flow. Butterfly Valves are designed to regulate flow with limited control capability. Butterfly valves are operated easily by rotating the handle at 90 degrees and can be operated both Automatically and manually. It consists of a metal disc in the body of the valve which is positioned perpendicular to the flow in the closed position. These valves can be operated by handles, gears or actuators according to specific needs.

Advantages of Butterfly Valves:
• This Valve requires very little maintenance.
• They have the capability to throttle flow
•. Butterfly valves are very accurate
• They can be installed or removed without pipe system dislocation

Disadvantages of Butterfly Valves:
• Butterfly valves have no tight shut offs

More About Butterfly Valves

Ball Valves: Ball Valves as the Name Suggests, uses a ball to control the flow of Elements from one end to another. They are Versatile and offer better Sealing. Ball Valve is Similar to Butterfly Valve, the difference is only the Shape of Rotating plugs. Ball Valves is in a Spherical form and has a hole drilled in it. These valves are in high demand in the industrial Sectors because of their reliable and air-tight sealing when in the closed position.

Advantages of Ball Valves:
• They has low-maintenance
• They are cost-effective among all of the valves
• Ball Valves provides leak-proof service.
• They open and close quickly.

Disadvantages of Ball Valves:
• Ball valves are not suitable for permanent throttling.

More About Ball Valves

Check valves: Also Known as non-return valves, Check valves allows the flow of Fluid in a single Direction and prevents Back flow in the Reverse Direction. A check valves will not control the flow but it will control he direction and prevents the Flow in the Opposite Direction.

Advantages of Check Valves:

• Check valves prevent backflow
• They can sustain pressure
• Check valves serve as a backup system

Disadvantages of Check Valves:

• While closing with check valves, elements may crash causing damage
